How to Set Up the Email Channel and Send Your First Email in Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO)
A beginner-friendly, real-time walkthrough explained like a story 📩
Let’s Start with a Simple Story
A user signs up on your travel website. They are excited. They are waiting for a welcome email.
But… nothing arrives.
Not because AJO is broken — but because the email channel was not set up correctly.
Let’s fix that step by step.

Step 1: Understand How Email Works in AJO
In Adobe Journey Optimizer, email delivery depends on three things:
- Email channel configuration
- Email message creation
- A journey or campaign to trigger the email
If even one is missing, the email will not be delivered.
Think of it like this:
SIM card + Mobile phone + Network = Call works
Step 2: Configure the Email Channel in AJO
This is a one-time setup and is mandatory.
Navigation Path
Administration → Channels → Email Settings
Create IP pools to group together IP addresses
Create channel configurations and select the Email channel
Email Subdomain Setup
The email subdomain is required for:
- Sending emails
- Tracking opens and clicks
- Email reputation
Example:
email.yourbrand.com
Select the subdomain to use to send the emails and the IP pools to associate with the configuration
Adobe provides DNS records that must be added by your IT or hosting team.
